This is the end. The end of Coghead.

The time has come. Today Coghead closed its doors for everybody who worked within the platform. Must say this case has taught us some lessons. In different ways.

It was definitely not that easy for users to get through all this mess while migrating their applications and choosing among various offers of different vendors.

It really makes me wonder which of all services out there were the most effective helping former Coghead users, what were the difficulties of migration process and how all things got actually solved. I think shared experience will show a bit what really systems are capable of. The time is right to find out who really helped Coghead users to go through all this with sufficient care and attention.

  1. As a former Coghead user, I evaluated pretty much everything out there. I had/have a pretty complex app, so some solutions like Caspio were out of the question as they would require extensive JS coding to accomplish what could be done with Coghead. Quickbase has an ugly pricing model, and I found Force.com rather cumbersome to work with.

I ended up using TeamDesk as my replacement and am very happy with the results. The system is easy enough to use, powerful enough to do what I need it to do, has a very affordable pricing model that allows me to offer the system to my clients at a low price point, and allows complete white-labeling. On top of that, they have a great support team and offered a migration tool that - while not converting as an exact replica - enabled me to modify the various fields and not have to spend days re-adding them.

All in all, my new TeamDesk app is actually more comprehensive and powerful (and faster) than the old Coghead version. Here's a little tour/demo if anyone wants an idea of what my app does: http://www.nextwaveperformance.com/tour/
